In school we are taking part in a project that is looking at the nature in our local environment. We have completed questionnaires and will be taking part in workshops and assemblies. To strt the project, Class 4 set up a camera in our wildlife area. It is infer red, so it can take pictures at night. Every time something moves across the screen, it takes a photo. What can you see on these pictures?…
Lumiere – Christmas 2021
On 16th December, 2021, we held our very own Ferryhill Station Primary School Lumiere! Each class prepared a light display and recorded Christmas songs to accompany it. There was a great turn out, with lots of parents and children looking at our Christmas celebration. Merry Christmas everyone!

School Closure
Government announces schools must close from Tuesday 5th January 2021
I am sure that you have heard that our Prime Minister has announced that all schools must close to most children as from 5th January 2021. As a school we had already made the choice to provisionally shut the school for 2 weeks after opening on Monday 4th January. This closure will now be extended as per the Government advice.
Provision for Key Worker and vulnerable children will commence on Tuesday 5th January and all parents/carers have been contacted about this. If you need this childcare provision then please contact the school office as soon as possible.
Teachers will be organising home learning which will also commence on Wednesday 6th January. It is the expectation that children will join face to face sessions with their teachers through Microsoft TEAMs. We have previously gathered information about children who have access to a suitable device for this sort of remote learning and children who have access to the internet. School has a limited supply of equipment to loan out. Families can pick up teaching packs (resources/books) and devices from 11am on Tuesday 5th January.
Children in Need
On Friday 13th November 2020 the school celebrated Children in Need. The children, and staff, were asked to come to school dressed in colourful or spotty clothes and bring in £1. They took part in classroom activities such as Joe Wicks exercise, Pudsey maths code breakers and making their own face mask.
Durham County Council Flowchart
Durham County Council have developed a helpful flowchart detailing what action to take under current Government guidance should your child fall ill. If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
Sending your child to school
What do you need to know?
HEALTH and education experts are offering help and advice to parents on when they can safely send their child to school.
County Durham Care Partnership, which brings together NHS organisations, Durham County Council and other providers to deliver improved, joined up health and social care services, has created an easy-read chart to help parents who are unsure if their child should stay at home or go to class.
Picnic and Sports Afternoon
Our picnic and sports morning turned into a picnic and sports afternoon after the true English weather let us down! The children were in great spirits and enjoyed taking part in all of the activities that the ‘Green Eggs and Ham’ Bubble (Y3/5/6 children) had created. And afterwards, what better than a drink and a snack to round it off. Well done everyone!
Welcoming Pupils Back to School
Today, we welcomed back pupils in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 (Bubble 1)and Year 6 (Bubble 2). Spirits were high amongst children and staff, and the day went well. The school looks and feels a lot different to the one that existed before lockdown. There is less furniture, lots of PPE and hand sanitizer and less children.
We encourage any parents whose children are not in school to continue to monitor the situation and stay in contact with the school. If you decide that you want your child to return then they will be eligible to start the following Monday. Of course, we respect your decision if you wish to keep your children off school and home learning will continue. Our ‘Back to School in a Bubble’ document will explain how the new routines look at the moment. Stay safe and stay happy.
Postponement of Wider Opening
Change of Plan!
We have received an email from Durham County Council advising schools not to open until 15th June 2020. This is because recent advice from SAGE was not clear on how safe children and adults in school would be at this time. As you know, we have been working hard to implement rigorous plans to do our very best to reduce the risk of coronavirus transmission in school, however, we must follow the guidance of our Local Authority and remain closed to most pupils until 15th June.
We will of course remain open for children of critical workers and those who are vulnerable, as we have done throughout this whole period. Texts have been sent to parents and you are able to reply to these. If you need to speak to someone about this, please say this in the text reply and someone will call you. The County’s press release can be accessed at the bottom of this article or via the Latest Newsletter link on the homepage. Thank you for your understanding in this matter and we will look forward to wider opening soon.
