EYFS Topic Web – Summer 2

We enjoyed walking to our local park, playing together and having a picnic as a treat at the end of the half term.

Our focus story, ‘How to Find a Fruitbat’ is set in a rainforest environment, so we made our very own rainforest habitats, collecting sticks, stones, soil, leaves, etc. We placed these in jars and left these in the sunlight so they became warm and humid, just like a rainforest habitat.

As part of our learning in Art, we have explored how to mix different shades of a colour. We found out how to create lighter and darker shades of particular colours.

In Maths, we have been using a balance to compare the weight of objects. We then used the balance to weigh measure out the ingredients we would need to make birthday cakes for all the children who have had a lockdown birthday.

Over the Easter break, our fabulous Woodland Area has been developed and today we have been out exploring. We had a fabulous time finding out about Woodland Habitats and we even spotted a fox hole.

Please find attached our topic web for the first part of the Summer term. Our topic is ‘My Colourful World’ and we will make the most of getting out into our great outdoor environment to explore an explosion of colour around us.

Nursery joined us to help plant seeds and beans in our Garden. We are watching these carefully, looking for signs of growth.

In connection with STEM week, we have found out about famous inventions then had a go at being inventors ourselves. We read the story Izzy Gizmo and devised inventions to help the injured crow in the story. We found out about ways of joining and assembling materials to make our models. Here are a selection of our incredible inventions.
